Looser in execution than other portraits in the collection, this work layers multiple heads in dialogue with each other, creating a sense of rhythm and movement across the page.

Rather than a polished likeness, the piece explores character through raw mark-making, tonal contrast, and fragmented line — an echo of the way jazz musicians build, break, and rebuild motifs mid-performance.

As such, it sits as both a standalone work and a rare archival glimpse into the evolution of the Jazzheads series.
